Wine Rebranding: Jonata — Claire Patrick

This project called for a luxury rebranding of an existing wine vineyard. I chose Jonata, who is a sister winery off of Screaming Eagle. I choose my materials and imagery based off of the vineyards upbringing. The name "Jonata" itself means "tall oak" in Chumash, Native American Indian. So I used oak and maple hard wood to make up the wine box, and an oak leaf as their new logo identity which was laser engraved.

Below I take you through my process of hand crafting the bottle and creating the logo that would be screen printed onto the bottle.

Rhino Modeling

I had to 3D render my box and bottle as it would be in real life in order to get the shape and dimensions perfect. I modeled this in Rhino, and had the bottle shape cut out by a CNC.

The Block

In order to make the actual structure, I glued 22 layers of maple and layered them to make the sides of the box have a more engaging look.

After the glue dried then I sanded and shaved off the sides to be the perfect size and be clean and smooth to the touch.

After it was sanded and square on all sides, I split the box in half for the CNC process.

In order to get a smooth enough surface for the bottle, the CNC worked in steps of eating away the wood in order to make the bottle negative.
